A photovoltaic system transforms sunlight into electrical energy using solar cells, which are essentially upscaled photodiodes made of doped silicon. When light hits a solar cell, it liberates charge carriers, creating a photoelectric current that flows in the opposite direction of the p-n junction's forward current. This diode current dictates the current output to an external load. At the no-load voltage U OC, this current equals zero, turning negative only when a voltage above U OC is applied. Once a positive current range is reached, the solar cell functions as a generator, outputting power to an external load. In the experiment, the voltage-current characteristics of this generator are measured and described using simple parameters, based on varying illumination levels.
